Tips For Getting Your Home Clean and How to Maintain It

You're moving out of your rental property, and you want to leave it in better shape than how you found it. You've got a lot on your plate at the moment, but what about the cleaning?

End of tenancy cleaning is one of those things that can be tough to find time for when there's so much else going on. Luckily, this blog post will walk you through some steps to help prepare and maintain your home after tenancy has ended!

Step One: Empty out your closets and drawers

Take everything out of the closet, dresser, shelves, etc. Anything that you're not taking with you should be sorted into piles for donation or trash.

Put furniture back in place once it's empty so when we get to cleaning later on there will be less work!

Step Two: Clean thoroughly from top to bottom

Clean all surfaces in the house (countertops, floors, walls) making sure no dirt is left behind.

Sweep up any dust bunnies under the bed and vacuum them away too! Scrub down sinks and shower/baths leaving a clean scent behind by using dishwashing soap.

Give mirrors a quick wipe-down to make  them sparkle.

Step Three: Disinfect the kitchen and bathroom

Put any sponges or dishcloths you want to reuse in a container of water with some bleach, soak for an hour then throw them in your machine along with everything else.

For countertops, sinks and toilet bowls use a cleaning solution like Clorox wipes (make sure it's not too strong).

To disinfect all other surfaces spray Lysol on them as well as inside cabinets and closets. Make sure to wipe down light switches on the way out! Once done put air freshener around the house so there are no unwanted odors left behind either.

Maintaining Your Clean Home:

Knowing how to maintain cleanliness can really save you  time and energy down the road.

It's important to make sure you clean regularly with a product or service that works for your home and lifestyle (for example, if there are pets in the house it might be best to get carpet cleaning done every few months).

You'll also want to keep an eye on spills so they don't seep into carpets, linens, furniture or flooring which can cost more time and money than just dealing with them as soon as possible.

Make sure all surfaces are completely dry before encountering any other materials like foodstuffs!

Getting Your Rental Deposit Back

When it comes to getting your rental deposit back,  it's important to know your landlord's policies and procedures.

Some landlords will schedule an inspection before giving you the funds, while others may not even require that it be done at all. It could also depend on how well or badly do maintain their property during a tenancy (especially when there is no lease agreement).

Some tenants are happy with simply maintaining things as they were found in order to get back the deposit money unscathed, but if you really want to get every penny of your deposit returned then you might need some professional help.

It's worth noting that many people rent because owning property can be prohibitively expensive- especially for those who don't have much savings built up! Renters insurance protects renters from certain types of losses and will  reimburse your landlord for damages that you were responsible for.

You can buy a tenancy agreement template online if you want to have the paperwork in order, but don't forget to set out what needs doing during your end of tenancy inspection as well!
